Question:
I have a 2014 BMW 328d XDrive sport wagon and purchased a Tekonsha 119191 wiring kit for running the trailer lights. I am attempting to determine the wiring hookup for the car and am really getting confused. I cant figure out using my multimeter which wires are which. I removed the drivers side outer tail light, and noted that there are four wires going to the tail light via the connector. Here is what I have: Pin 1: Yellow/Black wire Pin 2: Black/White wire Pin 3: Brown wire Pin 5: Purple/Gray wire When I have the headlights on, it seems that pins 1 thru 3 have some voltage. Pin 2 seems to be the left turn signal. I cant determine which wire is the ground wire. Can you provide more guidance on which pin/wire color is which for connecting up the Tekonsha 119191? Thanks for your help on this. Regards

While the only way you can verify exactly which wire is which on your specific 2014 BMW 328d XDrive is by contacting a dealer with the VIN or testing. We did install a similar 4-Way # 119250KIT on a 2018 which sounds like it has similar colored wires. I have linked the install video below which will hopefully help you with your installation as well.
I find often times using a multimeter can be difficult and a Test Light # PTW2993 is much simpler.
