How To Determine The Correct Adjustable-Fit Trailer Hitch For Your 5th Wheel Trailer

Updated 08/13/2024 | Published 03/22/2023

Question:

I was wondering if you would be able to make a recommendation for a frame mounted hitch for my 5th wheel. My 5th wheel did not come with a frame mounted hitch. I’d like to install something that would allow me to attach a bike rack to haul 4 bicycles. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

To find the correct adjustable-fit trailer hitch for your fifth wheel you'll need to measure the frame width, which is the distance between the inside of the frame rails. The Curt # C13704 you were looking at can it a frame width of 22" to 66" and has a 500lb capacity. It will mount under the frame and use two bolts on each side.

if you can provide me with your frame width I'd be more than happy to find the correct hitch for your trailer to haul your bikes around with.

I have a 7’ wide cargo trailer that is would like to mount a receiver hitch like the Curt 13704 to the back to carry bikes. The spacing between the frame is 80”. Are there any hitch receivers that extend that far?

@MarkR The highest we currently offer is only 77" so you'd have to have a qualified technician weld on some beams/boxes/tubes/etc. to close in that spacing and give the hitch something to mount to. This would definitely be a custom job to ensure that the setup is structurally sound and can handle the weight of the bike rack and bikes. I would check with any local fabricator company to get a ballpark price to see if it's really worth doing.
