Should You Replace the Grease Seals When Repacking Bearings

Question:
I’m going to repack the wheel bearings on my Keystone Cougar 29FKD double axle electric brakes. Are there inner and outer bearing seals that I need to replace?

Yes, you'll want to replace the grease seals when packing the bearings but the grease cap can be reused if it's still in good condition. If you don't know what bearings and seals you need, I have a few options for you to help with identifying these. The first and easiest method would be to crawl under the trailer and look for the axle tag on the beam. This should give an axle capacity which we can then use to find the bearings based off industry standards. For example, a 3,500 lb axle uses L68149 and L44649 bearings like what comes with the Hub Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and Al-Ko Axles part # BK2-100 which also has the grease seal. The other option would be to take the hubs off the trailer and either read the part numbers off the old bearings or measure them with a dial caliper to the nearest thousandth of an inch. I have attached an article that goes over this process in more detail.
I have also attached a link with list of our bearings if the above are not correct.
