Great question, Hannah, and welcome to the world of boating and trailering!
Since the Demco Disc Brake Actuator # DM33CV doesn’t include a lockout, you’ll want to add Demco Manual Lock Out Kit # DM93CV if you want to prevent the brakes from engaging when backing up. If you don't do it, and you try to reverse the trailer, the brakes may be actuated and the trailer wheels will lock up which is no fun on the boat ramp!
The lockout is super easy to install by hand, and you won't need to do any wiring or anything like that.

Hey Hannah, Did you get a chance to install the lockout kit for your trailer? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, especially since it's your first time with boating. Let me know if you need any more help!
