Parts Needed to Use Yakima HD Crossbars w/ Retrax XR Pro Tonneau Cover w/ T Slots

Question:

Hello! I am looking to use existing Yakima HD 68” crossbars 68” Item # Y01158 to mount to the bed of my 2021 F150 super crew short bed, in the grooves on a Retrax XR Pro bed cover. Many of you QandA recommend the Rhino Rack vortex 71” for this, but I have the Yakima HD crossbars available currently set up with roof mount feet. I also like the Yakima front loader bike racks and am hopefully about key/locks being compatible as an all in one set up. Questions: 1 will the Yakima HD 68” bars work the length seems just long enough? 2 what other components would be needed to mount them to the tracks of the retrax? 3 is it possible to match up the keys/locks on the existing Yakima crossbars with the locking feet needed to attach to retrax? Thank you!

Yes, the Yakima HD 68” crossbars 68” Item # Y01158 will work with your F-150. Yours are the same length as the ladder racks that fit your truck.

The only way to mount Yakima HD crossbars to the slots of a Retrax Pro Tonneau cover like item # RTX32SR is to use the Yakima OutPost HD Overland Truck Bed Rack Uprights item # Y01152 and the Tonneau Cover Adapter Kit item # Y01155. There's no feet kit for tonneau covers that are compatible with HD crossbars.

These uprights are 13" tall and when combined with the HD crossbars you will get a 300 lbs capacity. I have attached a picture below that will show you what this adapter and the uprights look like when installed on a Retrax Pro cover.

Yes, you can match up all of your Yakima locks so they can use the same key. You will want the Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores 8-pack item # Y07208 or item # Y07204 for a 4-pack.

The only other option if you're not interested in having a ladder rack is to use the Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars for Retrax XR Tonneau Covers - Black - 71" L item # RRVA180B-RRRLT600 you referenced.

The Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier item # Y02103 will fit both the Yakima HD crossbars and the Rhino-Rack Vortex crossbars.
