Question:

Hi. I just had ETBC7L 7 way upgrade kit installed on my 2019 Subaru Outback. Great kit...all seems well so far! I expected to use the Curt Echo, but am having difficulty even getting the Echo to connect to the Curt app. So Im now looking at going with a more traditional brake controller. since theres not a custom adapter/harness, Ill need to use a universal adapter and splice in. Other than the brake controller and universal adapter, is there anything else needed for installation? Im not clear about the need for circuit breaker and/or how it would be installed. Thanks!

In order to turn your # ETBC7L into the # ETBC7 and use a standard brake controller you will need the following parts:

-12-10 Gauge Butt Connector # 05732-2 (Quantity of 2)

-Self-Tapping Screw # FA1131822 (Quantity of 4)

-Small Ring Terminal # 44-5310A (Quantity of 2)

-Large Ring Terminal # 44-5356A (Quantity of 2)

-20 Amp Circuit Breaker # 9506P

-30 Amp Circuit Breaker # 38630

-Brake Output Wire # 10-1-1 (25 Feet)

For the installation, you can follow along with the video attached below on a 2020 Outback. This will cover the additional circuit breakers as well as the installation of a brake controller in the cab.

If you don't already have a new brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR which is what they're installing in the video. This comes bundled together with the universal adapter for installation. The main unit of this brake controller mounts out of sight, so it won't take up additional space in the cab. Only the control knob will be visible in the vehicle. The knob controls the brake power and also acts as the manual override.
