If your 2012 Porsche Cayenne has the factory 7-way all you will need to replace the connector is the Replacement 7-Way RV Style Trailer Connector item # HM40975.

However, if you do not have the factory connector then the only option to add a wiring harness to your Cayenne is to use the Upgraded Heavy Duty ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Installation Kit item # 119250KIT.

If you are planning on towing a trailer with brakes you will also need a 7-way connector and a brake controller which is another complicated process. I have listed the parts and steps you will need to follow below.

Then to add a 7-way connector you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Cayenne with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.

For your brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer brakes in proportion to your Cayenne's braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your vehicle.

The Porsche Cayenne is a bit unique with regards to the process of installing a brake controller. For this reason, we actually have a great article that details this process and any additional items you may need. I have attached the article for you to check out. You will need to obtain a connector housing (#1J0-972-782) and 2 wire/terminal assemblies (#000-979-228) from a local VW or Porsche dealer.
