How to Find a Replacement Trailer Light Lens Without a Part Number

Published 10/13/2022

Question:

How do you find a lens cover without a model number? I found the SAE number but I don't think that's the same as the part number.

Thanks for reaching out!

You are correct that the SAE number isn't the part number for the trailer light. It stands for Society of Automotive Engineers and is just a way of showing that the light manufacturer completed the required testing for the light.

If you can't find any other part numbers on the lens then try checking the body of the light itself for anything referencing a part number we can use to find you the correct replacement.

If we are still coming up short then the best thing to do is measure the lens itself (if it's broken just do your best or measure the corresponding light on the other side of the trailer) and then I've linked our selection of replacement trailer light lenses for you to filter through. Measurement listings aren't always exact so if one of the lenses looks similar to what you have and measures within 1/8" for height and/or length then odds are it will fit.

For example, the Replacement Tail Light and Side Marker Lens # A16RB is the correct replacement for the Optronics ST16, ST17, ST18, ST19, and ST27 Series tail lights and the main body measures 8-1/16" long x 2-7/8" tall while the mounting holes measure 7-3/16" horizontally x 2-5/16" vertically (see attached photo).

If you aren't able to find a replacement lens that matches your specs please feel free to reach out to us with any part numbers and measurements you have and we'll be happy to help! This process is the same whether it's a tail light or clearance light.
