Will Leaf Springs Work When Installed Below Axle
Updated 08/15/2022 | Published 08/12/2022 >
Question:
Can the springs sit below the axle? I had a dealer tell me that the spring under the axle I converted it now means that the spring provides no support? I am not a trailer expert. I want to validate this. Is that true?

Double-eye leaf springs are typically installed under the axle and will definitely still provide you with support. They can also be installed on top of the axle using an over-under conversion kit like the # K71-384-00. Either is fine as long as they are properly installed.
As you can see in the attached installation video, the leaf springs started on the bottom of the axle and end on top using the conversion kit. This kit is typically used to raise a trailer and has no impact on the support of the leaf springs. I have also attached a helpful article on trailer suspension for your reference.
