Troubleshooting a Reverse Lockout Solenoid Not Operating Correctly
Updated 07/11/2022 | Published 07/01/2022 >
Question:
I have a 2002 UFP A-60 actuator with the reverse lockout solenoid. Im trying to identify what parts need to be replaced. I cleaned the solenoid with brake cleaner and compressed air, energizing the solenoid to open the return port and it works. However, I noticed that when I block the normal brake line port and energized the solenoid and blow through it that the air flow is more restrictive through the return port than when not energized and flowing through the brake line port. Is that normal? The solenoid looks clean and while there was some crude in the master cylinder it cleaned up easily crude was not too thick nor hardened, I am replacing the master cylinder anyway.

I do have an option for you. From what you are describing your reverse lockout solenoid is not operating correctly. The reverse lockout solenoid should completely close when energized to prevent brake fluid from getting through to activate the brakes. The combination of age, presence of grime and that you can blow air through when energized tells me that it is time for a replacement.
