Question:
Your site say’s controller is best for short tows and only tow trailer occasionally. I was ready to order but that but that sounds like break controller may not be a good choice. What do you mean by short distance and only occasionally?

The Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller item # TK90160 is one of our lower end brake controllers that has less features. As far as economy controllers go this is the best option for the cost. It is extremely simple and has limited adjustability. It's pretty bulky and you have to be careful how you mount it because of the angle required for it to function properly. If you want to fine tune this brake controller for comfort you can not do it. That's what short distance is referencing. If these issues concern you then I recommend going with one of our higher end models. The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR is also a proportional brake controller but it has a unique installation method. The main portion of the brake controller is installed behind your dash and the only visible portion is the control knob. This is a huge advantage over the low end controllers because you don't have to worry about bumping into it with your knee. It has a 3-Axis accelerometer which measures deceleration in all directions for precise braking and smooth, uniform stopping action.
To complete the installation, without cutting or splicing wires, you will also need the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness item # RED59FR.
I reached out to Redarc and they recommended using the Universal Mounting Panel item # 331-TPSI-001 with the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR on your Ridgeline. This will give you a factory clean install of the control knob.
