Replacement Latch for Yakima SkyBox Cargo Box That Won't Open

Question:

Just returned with my borrowed neighbor’s skybox carrier full of my daughters college room stuff - serial #07156-07050. When turning the key the latch didn’t pop up. However, somehow we were able to pop out the latch. s But... as we turned the latch it didn’t release the top. The latch on the other side was broken already-so it was the only side to open . So we put the box on it’s side to remove anything that might be blocking any mechanism, and we were able to pop the too... with a little -not much-pressure. What needs to be replaced ? The box is over 6 years old... could there be something wrong with the long silver bars on either side of the lock mechanism too? Thanks.

Based on what you are describing it sounds like both of the latches need to be replaced. The correct replacement part is the Replacement SuperLatch Handles for Yakima SkyBox Cargo Boxes - Qty 2 # Y8880348. I would try replacing the latches and go from there, especially since the latch on the other side was already broken.
