Can Lippert ToyLok Retractable Cable Lock be Opened at the Seam
Updated 03/28/2024 | Published 04/18/2022 >
Question:
The ToyLok cable on my 2020.5 1995 Lance TT is stuck fully extended. I removed the unit from the trailer and dont know if a repair kit will be helpful. To find out, does the case split open at the side seam or is there an easier way to inspect the gutty works for what needs to be done? Im almost reluctant to do much because this problem has happened with only 2 years of service. I used it almost every trip to either secure the bikes or the weight distribution unit at campgrounds.

I reached out to my contact at Lippert and he said that you would pry it open at the seam but the problem is once it's been opened it will be that much easier for someone to break back into it so you'll be better off getting a while new unit, part # LC337120.
If you'd rather avoid going this route then we have the Fulton 15' Cable Lock # FCLK150100 that I recommend picking up. It doesn't have a retractable feature but it gives you as much cable as you were getting with the ToyLok.

Jon, I also have a broken ToyLok that does not retract due to a broken spring. I already removed the broken flat re-tractor spring, but can't find a replacement. Could you reach out to Lippert and see if they are able to provide a replacement spring? Unit and cable are still in great condition, seems wasteful to replace a $100 unit for a $5.00 spring. I have no concern about it being easier to break into.
