Is Sliding Version of B&W Companion Absolutely Necessary for Short Bed 2022 GMC Sierra 2500

I'm interested in the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch for the factory pucks in the bed of my 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. I have a short bed truck, is it absolutely necessary to get the sliding hitch? Can I use the non-sliding version instead?

In most instances, a sliding hitch like the B&W # BWRVK3775 Companion will be needed to provide the proper clearance between the cab and 5th wheel so the 5th wheel doesn't strike the rear of the cab during sharp turns.
If your 5th wheel hitch has the dished in or concave front corners, and the 5th wheel manufacturer has specifically stated that a sliding hitch isn't necessary, or if you use a rotating pin box such as the Reese Sidewinder along with the # SWW-06 wedge, the stationary model Companion, part # BWRVK3710 would work great for you.
