Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD Hauling A 2022 Keystone Sprinter

Question:

Hi. I would like to explore this idea of payload for pin weight. My current truck is 2018 GMC 2500HD Denali 6.6 diesel crew cab 4x4 short bed 6.5’. The door jab shows a payload of 2,155lb occupants and cargo should not exceed. Truck GVWR is 10,000. GCVWR is 25,300. Rear axels is 3,100lb. Towing capacity is 13,500 for 5ther. Will be pairing it up with 2022 Keystone Sprinter 32bh with 10,390 dry weight, 11,930 GVWR and 1,735 hitch. How did they come up with this hitch/pin weight? Was it based on dry or GVWR? Would my setup still work? Any feedback is appreciated!

The pin weight of a trailer is typically measured by the manufacturer at 15-20% of the GVWR. In this case based on the numbers you provided the manufacturer is running off of 15% GVWR to determine the pin weight of the trailer.

Since you've stated your 2018 GMC 2500HD has a towing capacity of 13,500lbs and payload capacity of 2,100lbs your trailer will fall under those limits.

Since you'll be very close to those limits you will see a significant amount of sag, so I recommend installing some suspension enhancement to limit the sag and improve your ride quality.
