Trailer Wiring Harness that Does Not Require Battery Connection for a 2012 Dodge Durango

Question:

Is there anyway to install a wiring harness to a 2012 dodge durango without running a wire to the battery? Would there be a downside to this? Thanks

We do have Curt wiring harness # C56133 that does not require a connection to the battery. Powered converters are great because the power for the trailer lights comes from the vehicle battery and this also helps to isolate the trailer wiring from the vehicle wiring. Isolating the wiring helps protect against short circuits on the trailer from back feeding to the vehicle wiring and potentially causing major electrical issues on the vehicle.

Running a power wire to the battery is not that difficult, it just takes some time. I have included a link to an FAQ I wrote with tips on routing the power wire if you decided to go that route instead of a non-powered harness.
