Suspension Enhancement for a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Hauling a Trailer and Truck Bed Camper
Updated 08/26/2013 | Published 08/23/2013 >
Question:
Will this item fit this truck? My rides OK now, but Id like to add a 1300lb camper GVWR 9280, with capacity left to handle the 1300lb, and tow my enclosed utility trailer, about 150lb tongue with trailer GVWR 7000lbs. I think the truck will handle it now, but a little additional help, might help. Also, I have a metallic clicking noise from my rear suspension. I think its some sort of spacer on the end of one of the leaf springs? I could send you a picture? Thoughts? Suggestions?

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System is a great way to assist your trucks suspension when carrying a camper and towing. I use a set of the Timbren springs on my truck when I tow and I would recommend them for anyone towing a trailer or carrying a camper. The Timbren System, # TGMRCK25S, is the correct system for your 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Crew Cab 4X4.
The important thing to remember when adding a rear suspension enhancement system is that it will not increase the weight carrying capacity of your truck. They are designed to assists existing suspension in good working condition to reduce sag and improve stability.
To determine if your 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD can support the 1,300 lb camper and your travel trailer, you will want to find the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of your truck. This will tell you the maximum weight that your truck, payload and trailer can weigh. You should be able to find this spec in your owners manual or by contacting a local GM dealer with your VIN.
I recommend having a qualified mechanic take a look at your leaf springs as well. If the clicking noise is something that is worn out or about to break, it would not be a good idea to tow or carry your camper even with the Timbren springs installed.
