How to Tell if My 2023 Chevy Silverado 3500 Has Overload Springs for Suspension Enhancement Fitment

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/22/2024

Question:

Hi I’d like to purchase a suspension kit for my Chevy Silverado 2023 3500 HD z71. I see 2 options 1 with overload springs and 1 without. I’m thinking mine would have them but is there a way to confirm. I took pictures but can’t add them. Thanks

Hey Eddie, thanks for reaching out! I'd be more than happy to help you out with this!

You can actually just take a peek behind your rear wheels at the suspension on your 2023 Chevy Silverado 3500 to see if you have the overload spring or not. If you check out the attached photo you'll see how there is a main spring stack and then a spacer and another leaf spring or two above that. The upper springs in this photo (highlighted yellow) are the overload springs and they kit in once your truck is REALLY loaded down with cargo.

With all of that being said, I really like the Air Lift LoadLifter 7500 XL Air Helper Springs # AL57541 you were looking at because they have the widest range of adjustability with this style, and you can quickly make on the fly adjustments as needed with an air compressor kit like the Air Lift WirelessAIR # AL74000EZ.

There are definitely more cost effective options, but for the best performance and ease of use it's really hard to beat a good old air bag kit.

Hey Eddie, how did it go checking behind the rear wheels on your Silverado to see if it has the overload springs? Your update could make it easier for the next person trying to pick the right suspension kit.
