How to Wire the 4-Way Round Socket for the Blue Ox 7-Wire to 4-Wire Adapter # BX88254
Updated 04/28/2025 | Published 08/21/2013 >
Question:
I am wiring the the 4 wire socket that this part [already ordered] will connect to, but I am seeing many different wiring diagrams for it. What is the proper order to connect my 4 wires at the 4-wire socket? is it [front view] Top Left: green, T/R:Brown, Bottom Left: White, B/R: Yellow? Why are there so many different diagrams showing the connections differently?

There are so many different diagrams on how to wire a 4-way round trailer connector because a standard has not been set on how to wire this type of trailer connector. This is likely because 4-way round trailer connectors are not very common.
I spoke with my contact at Blue Ox to determine how they wired their 7-Wire to 4-Wire Adapter, # BX88254, that you are planning on using. When looking at the front of the socket, wire the 4-way round socket as follows -
Top Left - Left stop/turn, yellow wire
Top Right - Right stop/turn, green wire
Bottom Left - Ground, white wire
Bottom Right - Tail Lights, brown wire
I have attached a diagram for you showing the front and back of the socket.
