Does Muffler Need To Be Removed For Installation of Curt Trailer Hitch on 2005 Honda Civic

You did not mention the muffler being in the way. Does it have to be takened off for installation ??

Expert Reply:
The installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C11204, you referenced does not require the removal of the muffler. This install has 5 steps that I have listed here:
1)General fit: This hitch mounts to the car's central tow loop under the bumper and to existing holes in the
left and right frame rails.
2) Hold the hitch in position at tow loop and the frame rails to identify the correct frame mounting holes.
Fishwire 7/16" carriage bolts with CM-SP108 spacers into position as shown. Use the larger access
hole forward of the mounting holes on the bottom of the frame rails.
3) Raise hitch to the carriage bolts in the frame rails and install flat washers, lock washers, and hex nuts
to each side as shown.
4) Use 1/2" fasteners to mount the hitch to the car's tow loop. The larger spacer plate fits to the opposite
side of tow loop.
5) Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft, and all 1/2" fasteners.

If you plan on towing, please note that the ball mount, pin, and clip are not included with the hitch. I would recommend a ball mount kit like part # 3593. This kit includes the ball mount as well as the pin and clip. For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I would recommend part # 19256.
Towing also requires a wiring harness to connect your Honda Civic lights to a the trailer lights. I have linked you to a page where you can select your vehicle style (coupe / sedan or hatchback) and select the correct harness.
