Can Lippert Solid Stance Be Installed to Rear Edge of RV Step

Does this have to be installed at the front edge of the step? It seems it would be more comfortable with the install bolts at the back edge of the step when going up or down the steps, especially with bare feet or flip flops.

According to Lippert, the # LC96BJ Solid Stance RV Step Supports can be installed to the lip on the rear of the bottom step, but it'll be more difficult to access the linch pins used to secure the legs in the up or down position.
