Recommended Trailer Hitch For A 41" Wide 2006 Ford E-450 Chassis With A Starcraft Bus Body
Published 01/31/2022 >
Question:
I have a Ford E450 chasis with a 25 passenger Starcraft bus on the back. The frame measures 41 inches outside to outside. What hitches are available? We need something light duty to put a cargo carrier on.

Expert Reply:
Though technically not light duty, I recommend going with a Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch. This will have a 2" receiver opening and the cross tube will measure 44" across, so it will have no issues fitting the 41" frame on your 2006 E-450 chassis. We do have three options available for this hitch and I do have them all listed below. All you will need to do to get the correct one is measure from the bottom of your frame to the bottom of the rear bumper.
Flush With Bottom Of Frame:
Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch # 41990
7" Drop From Bottom Of Frame:
Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch # 41990-07
16" Drop From Bottom Of Frame:
Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch # 41990-16
All three of these will have a 16,000 pound towing capacity and 1,600 pound tongue weight capacity, but you will be limited by your vehicle's capacity. If you are just going to be using it with a cargo carrier though, it will be perfect.
