whats the difference between c99fr and the c45cr for 2022 highlander limited

The main difference that you will see is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C45CR has a visible cross tube where the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C99FR has a hidden cross tube. So when you have these mounted on your 2022 Toyota Highlander Limited you will either see just the receiver slot and chain loops that hangs down, or you will see the receiver and cross tube that attach to the mounting plates on the left and right frame rails. I have included images so that you can see the difference when they are mounted.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C45CR will have a higher weight rating and will also allow the use of a weight distribution hitch. It is rated for 900lbs of tongue weight and a trailer up to 6,000lbs. With a weight distribution hitch trailer weight increases to 8,000lbs.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C99FR is only rated for 500lbs of tongue weight and a total trailer weight of 5,000lbs. No matter which receiver you choose be sure to not exceed any weight capacities given for your specific Highlander.

Depending on what you will be using your Highlander for will decide which wiring harness you should consider.

The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK99FR is a 4-way flat connector. This is most common on smaller trailers that do not have electric trailer brakes or an on board battery that needs to be charged. It will also allow you to use Auxiliary Lights # C53201 with any hitch mounted accessory such as a bike rack that will impair the view of your tail lights for other drivers. The Mounting Bracket # C58001 will secure the 4-way connector to the end of either receiver for easy access.

The Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter # TK57VR will be needed for larger trailer that use electric trailer brakes that will require a Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. It can also charge batteries that may be used to power accessories on the trailer. The Mounting Bracket # C58000 will secure the 7-way connector to the end of either receiver for easy access.
