How Much Can You Cut Off of the LED Wires for the Roadmaster 7-wire to 6-wire Replacement Cord

Question:
When I connected up the wiring from the LEDs to the replacement cord, there was a lot of excess wire that did not fit in the channel. I ultimately used electrical tape to loop the wire back on itself and attached it to the red cable with electrical tape to keep the small wires from snagging on anything as I drive down the highway. It also made the clamp a little harder to align. It is not as clean looking as it was, but I think it should work. My question is how much of both ends of the wires should I have reasonably cut off. The video mentions that the wires could be trimmed a little and talks about putting the wires in the channel, but when I first tried, the connectors cam loose my fault for not pushing and pulling evenly at both ends maybe. I bought some replacement heat shrink butt connectors, but the standard off the shelf connectors seem too big to go into the channel. I guess my long story short here is it would be good to have a better focus ie less edited out in the video for the entire segment of shoving the newly connected wires into the channel from before the butt connectors go into the channel until the wire is full placed properly. Also, do you sell replacements for the included heat shrink butt connectors that are the same smaller form factor?

There is not necessarily a pre set number of how much wire you should cut off when using the Replacement 7-Wire to 6-Wire Coiled-to-Straight Cord for Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar # RM-1676-7R. You can cut the wire as short as needed so long as you leave enough wire on each end to fully seat in the butt connectors for a good strong attachment (you will want to give a pull at each side after crimping to ensure they are in the connector tightly). I went out to our warehouse to take a look at the butt connectors that come with the kit, they don't have any markings on them but are significantly smaller than any butt connector we carry.
