How To Determine Which Replacement Brakes Will Fit A Karavan Boat Trailer

I have a us-2800-sb-74-st-gl boat trailer. I believe its made by Karavan. I would like to know what shoes and or back plate kit I would need. I THINK the brakes are 10X 2.24 Thank you!

From what I could find out, you do indeed have a Karavan boat trailer. Unfortunately, this was all I could confirm with the US-2800-SB-74-ST-GL number. With that being said, there will be two ways to proceed to figure out which replacements will be correct for your trailer.
First, and the easiest way, will be to contact Karavan with your VIN. They should be able to tell you exactly what size, brand, style, and capacity brakes were used on your trailer. If for some reason they cannot, you are not out of luck, but you will need to pull one of the hubs off.
This will definitely be the more difficult of the two options, but not overly so. The easiest way to determine which you need will actually be to measure the inside depth and diameter of the drum. 10" x 2-1/4" will be the most common size, but there are a few others out there. Especially if you have hydraulic brakes. To replace just the shoes, we will need to know the size, brand, style, and capacity of the brakes to make sure they will fit properly. If you want to go with a whole brake (backing plate and shoes and everything), we will just need to know the size, style, and bolt pattern on the back.
There are a couple bolt patterns that are used, so it is definitely a good idea to measure and confirm. As an example, the etrailer.com Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # AKUBRK-35-D will use a 4 bolt pattern that measures 2-7/8" from center to center of each bolt. Again, this is kind of a standard, but not always the same one that is used.
