Thule Cantilever Extension Is Sitting 1" Higher Than The Ladder Rack Crossbars
Updated 07/13/2026 | Published 09/12/2021 >
Question:
Why does the cantilever stick up 1in above the other two crossbars. The instructions say not to over load the cantilever but since it sticks up all the front weight will be on it and not the main uprights. Do I have the wrong part.

That is completely normal. Thule states that the Cantilever Extension # TH24002XT will sit about 1.5" to 2" higher than the bed racks. Once the rack system is properly loaded, it will level out with the height of the bed racks. If you are not putting much weight on the extension then it is likely just not enough weight to push the bar down level with the rest of the ladder rack. As long as you are not putting over 1,000lbs directly on the cantilever extension then you will be fine.

This misalignment of the cantilever bar has been trouble for me from the start in 2023. The extra torque on the bolts has broken bolts. It broke the stock bolts relatively soon after installation. I just got another broken bolt a couple years later. Each time a bolt breaks it becomes a project to extract it as they get frozen in place. I tried never-seize in the past but then they loosen. It looks like the new cantilevers are in line.
