Video Transcript for Thule Cantilever Extension for Thule Ladder Racks Review

Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Cantilever Extension for Thule TracRac Ladder Racks. This is going to be compatible with any sliding track rack as you see here but it's also going to be compatible with your non-sliding ladder racks like our TracOne. This extension is going to add about 32 inches to the amount of load you can carry which is going to be ideal for those extremely long loads. It is going to hang over your cab and not over the excess on the back which is always good because usually you have to put a flag on there and someone could honestly run into it.

This is going to be ideal and we are going to have a 65 inch rail as well, and we will be able to put any type of T-track that we may need to fasten down our equipment. Also it is going to have about 1000 pounds weight rating but always check your owner's manual to make sure your truck can handle it.As you can see here we are utilizing all three of our bars for those longer loads. We've got some pipe, we've got a ladder but we can actually put some of our accessories from Thule here as well. We all carry them at etrailer.com and of course we do need to make sure we strap these down properly. So if you don't have any straps, go on etrailer.com and grab some.

Our extension here is going to be made of a lightweight aluminum which is going to resist against that rust and corrosion over time so you can be rest assured that after you spend all the money to get this onto your existing ladder rack it's going to look just as good as it did the day you bought it. We also do have some high quality hardware and it's really easy to install so let's just go ahead and show you how.Now to get this installed on your TracRac we are going to take our bracket here, grab it to where these holes are there, facing in, slide it over. One thing to note, all of our hardware is made of stainless steel so you do want to grab some anti-seize loctite here and basically that's just going to keep that friction down just so that stainless steel doesn't end up molding together. Once you get that on there you can just fish it through and thread it in by hand. We can do that on both sides and then we can torque them down evenly.

I'm going to go repeat that same exact process on the other side. So once we get all of our brackets properly in place we can go ahead and assemble this tube here and put it onto our rails. I do suggest grabbing an extra set of hands just so you don't damage the roof of the vehicle. And you're going to start with one side. When assembling this bar it's pretty easy, we've only got a couple different points we have to bolt down and then we got to place our bumpers here just so we don't damage our roof. And again everyone make sure you put a little bit of anti-seize on there, on all the bolts, just so we don't have any issues threading them down.

It is very important just because they are all stainless steel and they will literally bind together, and that's something we don't want. Once you have a little bit of that on there you can just go ahead and start threading them in by hand. Then once we get them all into place we are going to tighten them down. I usually just do a star pattern like that just to make sure they're tightened down properly. And to tighten these down I am using a 7/32" hex bit. I usually get it to where it hits that metal there and of course star pattern is always ideal. Well everyone I hope this video helps answer some of those questions that you may have and again, this was the Thule Cantilever Extension for Thule TracRac Ladder Racks.

Cantilever Extension for Thule TracRac SR, G2, and T-Rac Pro2 Ladder Racks - 1,000 lbs - Full Size - TH24002XT

Average Customer Rating:  4.4 out of 5 stars   (9 Customer Reviews)

Carry extra-long pipes, lumber, or gear with this rack extension. Cantilever add-on gives your Thule TracRac an extra 32" of length over the truck cab. Designed for use with the Thule TracRac SR, G2, and T-Rac Pro2 ladder racks made after 2011.

The cantilever extension works great. Heavy duty, good quality and its aluminum (no rust). I have a GMC 2500HD and there is good clearance over the crew cab. I had to purchase this separately from the T-RAC Pro 2, which required replacement of some of the bolts on the T-RAC Pro, resulting in left-over parts and fittings. Thule quality + spare assembly parts = $$$, so I deduct a star.

- TH24002XT

After adding the extension to my Thule rack, I noticed a half inch lower Height of the middle cross bar compared to the rear cross bar on my Silverado.

- TH24002XT

Only had a few weeks to check it out but so far it’s very sturdy and I’m very impressed with the product.

- TH24002XT

My truck has dealer installed Trac-Rac - nobody could tell me the exact model number though. The installed straightforward but breaking open the installed cross-bar took a little grunt on the screws as they have locktite on them. Once apart fitup went great but the alignment of the 3 cross-bars horizontally had the added extension cross-bar higher by about the thickness of the cross-bar. I pulled off the side extensions and flipped them `upside down' crossing sides. I filed the little indents and drilled the now bottom of the brace to receive the corner struts. Put them on and now the cross-bar is slightly lower. This is not a problem because I installed a wear strip over the top to makeup the slight lower elevation. Everything looks perfect, no one but me will know. But it did take about 3 hrs vs. an hour or so as purported. Thank you.

- TH24002XT

The cantilever worked very well and I am very happy with it. If it was even longer to fit more over the top of the truck it would be even better.

- TH24002XT

Fast shipping and thorough service. The extension performs as it should and fits perfectly.

- TH24002XT

excellent. Delivery is extremely prompt. Very professional company.

- TH24002XT

  • Which Thule Ladder Rack Fits 2019 Ford Ranger and Can Be Used with Cantilever Extension
The Cantilever Extension part # TH24002XT does not fit the Thule Xsporter Ladder Rack part # TH500XTB that you mentioned but for a similar ladder rack confirmed as a fit for your 2019 Ford Ranger that does work with the extension we have the Thule TracONE part # TH27000XT.

  • Can Cantilever Extension be Added to TracRac SR Ladder Rack
Yes, the over-the-cab cantilever is available separately as part # TH24002XT. If you wanted to add this to an SR TracRac ladder rack this is what you would need. This will come what you'd need to add that third bar out in front above your truck cab.

  • Can the Thule Cantilever Be Added to TracRac And Used to Carry a Cargo Basket
I spoke with my contact over at Thule and they say that using a cargo basket with the Thule Cantilever # TH24002XT and Thule TracRac SR # TH43002XT-780 is not typically something that they've seen and have not tested this application use on this product. Just because they haven't seen it, doesn't mean that it can't be done, but it was noted that the Cantilever bar was not designed to carry an extremely heavy load-it was simply designed to help spread out the weight on longer loads. • How to Add an Over-The-Cab Extension to a TracRac Ladder Rack
An over-the-cab extension is not a universal piece and will be dependent on the type of ladder rack you have. If you have a TracRac SR, G2, or T-Rac Pro2 then you can add the over-the-cab extension using part # TH24002XT. If you have a TracRac TracONE then you can add the over-the-cab extension using part # TH24001XT. Unfortunately, we only carry over-the-cab extensions for TracRac ladder racks at this time.

  • Recommended TracRac Cantilever Extension Over Cab for TracONE Systems
Thanks for your kind words. The TracRac Cantilever Extension # TH24001XT is the correct fit for your TracONE ladder rack on your 2010 Dodge Ram Big Horn 1500 with 6-1/2 foot bed. This will give you an extra 32 inches of length over your cab to support your load. You may want to consider the Tie-Down Loops for TracRac Ladder Rack Crossbars # TAPI-11019 to give you the addition tie-down locations as well. The # TH24002XT is not a fit for TracONE systems.
