Flat Towing Setup Procedures For A 2020 Buick Envision
Published 08/25/2021 >
Question:
We have the set up complete with the wiring bypassing the fuses with a on/off switch so they don’t have to be removed like the manual said. The manual doesn’t mention leaving the accessory in the on position like the installer advised when being towed. According to the owners manual the accessory key will automatically turn off in 15 minutes. Will this disengage the steering wheel? Thanks for your help.

You should always follow the listed instructions in the manual for your vehicle when flat towing. The generic manual online for the 2020 Buick Envision states that you need to:
1. Position the vehicle to tow and then secure it to the towing vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition on, and shift the transmission to N (Neutral).
3. With the transmission in N (Neutral), turn the ignition off.
4. To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove fuses 29 and 32.
Since the manual states you need to turn the ignition to the off position in step 3 that is what you should follow. Other vehicles that require the key to be in the accessory position to prevent the steering wheel from locking list that as a requirement in the manual.
