Can Other Pins be Used With a Curt QuickPin Coupler?

Question:
Is there rally anything special about this 1/2# pin except the drilled hole in the end? The information describing the hitch says this pin must be used and no other 1/2inch pin can be used. It looks to me that in a pinch, a regular 1/2inch pin can be used if a hole is drilled in the end for a retaining pin.

The Curt Pin and Clip with Lanyard # C87ER is designed to be used in their QuickPin No-Latch Trailer Couplers. Due to this, it has 3 1/2 inches of usable length. This is more than the standard 1/2" pin which will have roughly 2 1/2 inches of usable length. So technically, yes, you can use a different pin as long as it has the needed length.
