Can I Remove The Lid Of My Yakima RocketBox Pro Rooftop Box

Question:

I have painted the lid the same color as the car. Is there a way I can I totally remove just the lid from the base after removing the lock cores.? In other words can I unlock the locks on both sides at the same time? I want to add graphics to the lid. Thanks. By the way I was able to source four TALL rain gutter tall towers from Spain for the rear mounting points. I only needed two so I have two if you know of anyone who needs them. See picture.

Yes, technically you can remove the lid of this Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 Rooftop Cargo Box 14ft, part # Y07192, but I do not recommend it. The box has a simple ball and socket joint that you will have to disengage to remove the lid. Once the lid has been disengaged, even after reinstalling, it does not work quite the same and you might make a more difficult to close the box. Just like a person's shoulder once it has been "dislocated" it does not take as much force for it to happen again.
