Replacement External Lid Hinge for Yakima RocketBox Rooftop Cargo Box

Updated 01/30/2018 | Published 01/29/2018

Question:

I have an older black 8foot rocketbox that is in need of a hinge replacement. Not the inside black plastic hinge of which 2 exist but 1 of 4 of the aluminum hinges that open up on the side of the box that is riveted into the plastic. My rear hinge broke and, as usual, I am coming to you guys first. Any advice? Thanks!

On cargo boxes like the Yakima RocketBox series the external hinges and most other components that are riveted into place at the time of manufacture are not user-replaceable. So this just means you might need to drill out the rivets on the bad hinge, remove it completely and install a new one using more conventional nuts-and-bolts hardware.

We do offer two replacement hinges, parts # TH13227 from Thule and # SR03396 from SportRack, and one of these will work fine on another brand of cargo box.

I suggest you use stainless steel (preferred) or galvanized steel hardware since this will be exposed to the elements.

If you have extra holes in the box that need to be sealed I suggest using RTV sealer # LT37467 and on the hardware you can use Loctite # LT37420.
