Question:
I am trying to do an over under conversion on my axel for my Viking 17 bh. I found an article that led me to believe that I needed the Dexter K7138500 Conversion Kit. The U-bolts are too wide and the new brackets do not match up with my old ones. My axel measures 2.5 inches I measured the inside space for the U-bolts that I just removed. Can someone point me to the correct conversion kit?

We offer a Dexter Over-Under Conversion Kit for a 3500 lb axle which is typically 2-3/8 inches in diameter as part # K71-384-00 or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch diameter axles with a 5200-7000 lb capacity.
It sounds as if you have the kit for larger axles. I'd measure the diameter of your axle tube, if it's 2-3/8 inches, the # K71-384-00 is the kit you need.
