Timbren Axle-Less Suspension Recommended for 1500 lb Homemade Camper

Updated 02/19/2021 | Published 02/18/2021

Question:

Do the ratings of Timbren axles work the same as straight axles? If I have a home Built camper that weighs 1500lbs with gear, can I go with 2000lb Timbren axles? Or should I go with the 3500lb? I want a smoother ride.

You would want to use the 2000 lb rated Timbren Axle-less trailer suspension that you'd looked at, part
# ASR2KHDS03 for for the best ride quality. The 3500 lb rated system would make for a very rough ride that you wouldn't be happy with.

If you were wanting to go with idler hubs, you'd need part # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K which is compatible with the spindles provided with the # ASR2KHDS03 axle-less suspension. The hubs include the inner and outer bearings, races, the grease seal, the dust covers and the lug nuts. The hubs have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

If you were wanting trailer brakes, you'd use the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hub drum which is compatible with the spindles on the Axle-less suspension I recommended. This hub/drum also includes the bearings, races, grease seal, dust cover and lug nuts. You'll also need 10 inch brake assemblies like # AKEBRK-35-SA. These are self adjusting brake assemblies which is what I typically recommend because after an initial adjustment, the brakes will keep themselves adjusted for optimal braking.
