Items Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2011 Lexus RX350 Without Tow Package

Question:
I bought a 2011 RX350 Canadian version that was not ordered with the tow package. What do I need to install to properly tow our 2500 lb boat?

To tow your boat trailer with your 2011 Lexus RX350, you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, ball mount, pin and clip and a hitch ball.
For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75676. This trailer hitch has a 4,000 lb towing capacity and a 400 lb tongue weight capacity. It is important that you verify the towing capacity of your vehicle before you attempt to tow a trailer. If your vehicles towing capacity is less than of the hitch, you will need to go by that weight capacity.
Since you vehicle did not come with a factory tow package, you will need to install the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118478. This wiring harness will connect to the back of the tail light assemblies and includes powered converter box that will protect your vehicles sensitive electrical system. This converter box will have a power wire that will run to the vehicle battery. I have attached an installation video for you to check out as well as an FAQ article on routing a power wire.
The wiring harness, # 118252, that you referenced was designed to fit vehicles with the factory tow package.
The last item that I recommend is the Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. This kit includes 2 ball mounts, pin and clip, a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball and a 2 inch hitch ball as well as a carrying bag for easy storage.
