Question:
I am confused with the class S restriction on the tires. What is this and what tire chains do you recommend for my pilot 235/70R-16

First, you will want to consult the vehicle owners manual for your 2005 Honda Pilot to determine if cables or chains can be used and if so if there are any restrictions or recommendations. We have answered a question before on a Honda Pilot with 235/70-16 tire size and the owners manual said SAE Class S cables only, no chains.
SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require the use of Class S chains. A Class S snow tire chain has to have an internal clearance of 15mm or less. That measurement means the clearance between the tire sidewall and the closest part of your vehicle.
I am including a link to a picture that will show where that clearance is measured on a Class S tire chain and a link to a FAQ page on snow tire chains.
A snow tire chain recommendation will depend on how much it is going to be used and the conditions they will be used in.
If your owners manual recommends SAE Class S cables, I would recommend the Titan # TC729DC snow cables with V pattern, as they will offer better cornering and stopping compared to typical ladder style chains.
