Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Brophy Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitch

Today we'll be taking a look at the Brophy Ball Mount for a 2-1/2" Hitch. Now, this is going to serve as the connection point between our vehicle and our trailer. We'll have our ball mounted here. It's going to attach to our hitch via a hitch pin. Now, both of those items the ball, and the hitch pin are sold separately. You can find a lot of options at etrailer.com.

You just want to be sure to check the weight rating on both of those items. Make sure that they're up to the task of whatever you're hauling since you're really only as strong as your weakest link.Our ball mount has a nice sturdy steel construction with this black powder coat finish. Have a hollow shank there, and you can use this in the rise or the drop position. You'll just have to have your ball mounted to the side that you want it to be. So, if you want it in the drop position you'll have your ball mounted here, the rise mounted up there.

Now, this is going to work again for your 2-1/2" by 2-1/2" hitches so that's going to be typically your class four and five and up. The gross towing weight is 10,000 pounds with this, and our tongue weight is 1,000 pounds. The distance between the center of the ball hole and the center of the hitch pin hole is just over 13", 13-1/4. Our drop from the inside of the hitch opening to our platform is 2", and the rise from that same point, the inside of our hitch opening, is 3/4".The diameter of that ball hole is 1-1/4". The platform is 3/4" thick, and the pinhole accepts a 5/8" diameter pin.
