Best Option To Replace Factory Brake Controller On 2019 Ram 1500 To Tow Trailer With EOH Brakes
Updated 07/08/2020 | Published 07/07/2020 >
Question:
I have a 2019 Ram with a factory brake controller. I have 2 dual axle trailers, one with electric brakes 20foot flatbed trailer and one with electric over hydraulic 25foot boat trailer. With the factory controller I cannot get either trailer to much of anything with the factory brake controller. It will barely hold the truck at a stop in idle while giving 100 with the manual control. I have the trailers setup as heavy electricinch and heavy EOHinch and I the correct trailer before pulling. I have some questions on this below: 1. Do you offer an aftermarket brake controller that I can install to replace the factory controller? 2. Is there a switch or setting on the aftermarket to between electric and EOH? 3. How would I disable the factory controller and use an aftermarket with the factory wiring harness? 4. Do these get tied into the trucks hydraulic brake system still like the old days?

In regards to replacing the factory brake controller on a 2019 Ram 1500, the only option that will not require any dealer servicing is going to be the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which is a plug-n-play option that is electric over hydraulic compatible. The rest of the options would all require you to take the truck to the dealer to have them turn off the engine light caused by removing the plug from the factory brake controller. This option still allows you to keep the factory controller without any modifications.
There would be no switch or setting to use the Curt Echo with electric over hydraulic brakes, it would simply work as is.
