Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitches for a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:
Hi, I am debating between the Draw-Tite 76227 vs Curt C13410 for 2017 Subaru Outback. How do both compare because they look the same and have similar tongue and towing weights, both exceed the limits of my Outback. Is there any real difference between the two? I read something that one may require stabilizing straps, while the other doesn’t. The Curt model is cheaper in price, but are the Curt and Draw-Tite really just the same? Thanks!

Draw-Tite and Curt are 2 of the leading brands when it comes to towing products so a lot of their hitches look pretty similar since they are in competition with each other. When it comes to the Draw-Tite # 76227 and the Curt # C13410 I recommend going with the Curt for your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon because we have found that they tend to have stronger welds and a thicker powder coat to help make them last longer.
It used to be that Curt had a note on a lot of their trailer hitches saying you needed to use a stabilizer strap when using a bike rack or cargo carrier but they took that rule away no too long ago so that might be why you read that somewhere.
You have already noted that your Outback Wagon has lower weight ratings so you'll want to make sure that you don't exceed those as your vehicle is the limiting factor. If you let me know what you plan on using the hitch for I can make additional recommendations as necessary.
