Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Subaru Outback

Updated 02/11/2025 | Published 02/06/2025

Question:

I have a 2019 Subaru Outback 2.5l premium. I’m looking to get a trailer hitch attached to tow two jet skis. What hitch would be best? I’m looking for one that can be properly wired along with minimal alterations to my vehicle. I also was wondering which one would have the best ground clearance as I go off road often. I was looking mainly at Class III ‘s with 4,000lb GTW. Let me know, thanks!

Hey Karston, the best hitch solution for your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon would be the Curt hitch part # C13410 as it has great towing capacities, has best ground clearance, and only minimally modifies the rear fascia.

For trailer wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha part # 118467 which installs the easiest and has most reliable converter box. Do you have a ball mount already?

@KarstonB Do you know what size hitch ball you need? Probably 2 inch? Do you have access to the trailer currently to measure distance from coupler lip down to ground?

@JamesonC I do not have access to the trailer currently. Still waiting to buy it. I would assume 2 inch but honestly it might be smart for me to get one of the multi head ones

@KarstonB Something like the part # FHG62VR? This has all three popular ball sizes. I'd assume you'd only need the two smaller sizes but none of the double balls have just the two smaller sizes.
