Identifying and Replacing Hydraulic Trailer Brake Cylinder

Updated 07/07/2020 | Published 07/03/2020

Question:

Hi - I need to replace the wheel cylinders on my 1996 boat trailer. Its equipped with a Dico Model 10 surge brake actuator and the wheel hubs are marked AL KO and 7210. The brakes are 12in x 2in but I cant find any identifying marks on the brake assembly, just a painted 50927 on part of the shoe. Pic attached. Can you tell which cylinders will work for me. Also, if it makes a difference the trailer does not back up freely. Thanks

The Hydraulic Brake Kit - Uni-Servo - Free Backing - 12" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 5.5K to 7K
Item # AKFBBRK-7 looks like a similar fit. It sounds like you are just looking for the cylinder so based on the photos I recommend the Replacement Wheel Cylinder for 10" and 12" Free Backing Brakes - Uni-Servo - Right Hand # AKBRKR-H7-R-CR or # AKBRKR-H7-L-CR for Left Hand.

With the photo you have, the trailer should back up freely. The Duo-Servo Wheel Cylinder for 12" Titan Brake Assemblies - RH # T1718500 is the style wheel cylinder that wouldn't allow free backing.
