The Demco Classic Base Plate Kit part # DM9518272 is an excellent option for a 2012 Subaru Outback Wagon. The base plate kit attaches to the core support arms located behind the front bumper fascia which then provides a connection point for a tow bar such as the Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar part # DM9511012 which is what I recommend.

If you want to get a better idea of what all is required to install the base plate kit you can take a look at the document below which outlines this entire process. I know they seem daunting at first but once you get started they usually go pretty easy. The hardest part is usually putting the bumper back on and getting everything lined up like it was from the factory.
