Margin of Error for the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale
Updated 08/14/2020 | Published 04/22/2020 >
Question:
What is the accuracy tolerance of part number #e99044? Is it plus or minus 1, 5 or even maybe 10 of the dial reading? i.e. While in use, if the dial reads 500 lbs. and the accuracy tolerance is plus or minus 10 that means the actual tongue weight could be 450 to 550 lbs. What is the accuracy of this part?

This is a really good question. I sent it to our engineer and he told me that the gauge has a 3%,2%,3% margin of error. This means that in the first third of its range, it is +/- 3% of the actual tongue weight, the middle of its range it is +/- 2%, and in the top third of the range +/- 3%.

Can I still get an accurate tongue weight if not on level ground? For example, if I have my travel trailer leveled at the campsite with one side on leveling blocks and the tongue jack exercised to the proper position to level the trailer front to rear. The instructions state to place the trailer on level ground in order to measure the weight, but wouldn’t having the trailer in a leveled attitude accomplish the same thing, so long as I don’t have the leveling jacks employed and supporting any of the trailer weight?
