I am getting the 2 inch. What wire set plugs directly in to the car?

While there is a 2 inch trailer hitch recevier that fits your 2014 Volkswagen Passat TDI, I checked with Curt and can verify the only one of their hitches that fits your Passat is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11234.

This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, but has a concealed crosstube so the only part of the hitch you see is the receiver, as you can see by the accompanying photo I added of this hitch on a 2014 Passat.

As for a 2 inch hitch, there is one that fits, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7317.

Like the Curt hitch, the EcoHitch has a hidden crosstube so it will keep your VW's appearance, but its 2 inch receiver makes it a much better option for accessories than a Class I receiver, which is only compatible with Class I accessories. Because of that, I recommend the EcoHitch option for your Passat.

The plug-in trailer wiring harness that fits your 2014 VW Passat is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118646. You will not need to do any splicing with this connector; I have added a link to a video install for you to check out as well. This will give you a great towing set up with the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7317.
