Are Diodes Needed For the Flat-Tow Wiring Harness On a 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Is it necessary to have a diode in the wiring to use the factory lights on a 2016 jeep wrangler? And if so why? This is for flat towing plugged into tow vehicles trailer plug and toads trailer plug both 4 wire flat plugs.
