To tow a small trailer with the 2020 Toyota RAV4, you will need a hitch, wiring, lock and ball mount.

For the hitch, I recommend Class III Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13416 which has a corrosion resistant powder coat and is assembled in the USA. It is also a concealed cross tube design for a nice OEM look. I have attached a video and photo for your reference.

I recommend Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56434 which is known to last a bit longer compared to the other options especially the converter boxes. The wiring harness will plug into the vehicle's wiring behind the tail lights. I have attached a video for your reference.

For the ball mount I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900 since you are not sure what amount of rise or drop you need yet. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. I recommend to take a look at the helpful article I have attached about how to figure the amount of rise or drop you may need.

I recommend to get a hitch lock part # C23519 to protect your investments.
