Question:

By removing the two bike extension itself would reduce the tongue load over 30 lbs, what would be the restrictions be to not be able to carry the additional 30 lbs of bike weight?

I have a really great solution for you but when carrying only 2 bikes the Yakima rack part # Y02443-2 would not be able to carry two 58 lb bikes. Instead though we have the Kuat NV part # NV22B-NA22B which does have a 60 lb per bike capacity when carrying just two bikes. In this type of configuration it would be your only option as well.

That's a really good point that you bring up but you have to also consider that the wheel trays and frame hooks also have weight capacities as well which is why you are still limited to 50 lbs per bike with the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443-2.
