Comparison Between Hollywood Racks # HR1400 And Yakima # Y02443-2 Bike Racks
Published 04/03/2015 >
Question:
I have a 2015 Toyota HIghlander and I am looking for a hitch mount 2-4 bike platform style bike rack. The Yakima Holdup 4 and Hollywood HR1400 racks receive excellent reviews. Aside from the obvious price difference, are there other deciding factors I should consider? Thank you.

There are several similar features between the Hollywood Rack, part # HR1400Z, and the Yakima HoldUp 4 Bike Rack, part # Y02443-2. These are both nice bike carriers.
Both bike racks can be configured to carry either 2 or 4 bikes. Both will tilt for access to the rear cargo area of the vehicle. They both come with locks that secure the bikes to the rack and also locks that secure the rack to the vehicle. They both measure the same distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the rack at 7 inches. Both carriers tilt so it makes it easier to load and unload.
Some of the things that make them different are the # Y02443-2 holds the bike secure by 2 places. It has a ratcheting hook that holds the bike wheels secure and straps that secure the wheels to the bike wheel cradles. The # HR1400 has hooks that slide along the center mast and attach to the bike frame.
The # Y02443-2 has a total weight capacity of 200 lbs with a bike weight capacity of 65 lbs each. The # HR1400 has a total weight capacity of 180 lbs and a bike weight capacity of 45 lbs each. The #HR1400 does have a 7 inch rise in the shank which will provide a bit more ground clearance.
The Yakima has 2 red LED lights attached to the back of the rack and also includes a flag to make the rack visible to other drivers. And the Yakima rack has a handy bottle opener built in to the base. The # Y02443-2 weighs about 49 lbs as a 2-bike rack and about 98 lbs as a 4-bike carrier. The# HR1400 weighs 45 lbs as a 2-bike and 74 lbs as a 4-bike rack.
Depending on the type of bikes you plan to carry but for my money I would rather have the Yakima bike carrier because it secures the bikes by the wheels and does not have to rely on the bike frame to be secure.
I have attached videos for both of these bike carriers you can check out.
