Question:

Just read your article on flat towing the 2018 Buick Envision. Could you modify that to reflect the needs for a 2020 Envision, please? I think Id like to start with the Roadmaster 523196-4 baseplate. Will that unit accept other than Roadmaster tow bars? Blue Ox? Thanks,

I can definitely help you out with a flat towing setup for your 2020 Buick Envision!

You can definitely use the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 523196-4 with the Adapter # RM-033 so that the base plate kit is compatible with a Blue Ox tow bar, but in all honesty it would be much easier to use the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-523196-5 with the Adapter Kit # BX88185 instead because you don't have a whole bar that you need to use as an adapter.

I'm guessing that you already have a Blue Ox tow bar but if you don't already have one and that's the direction you are wanting to go then I recommend the Ascent Tow Bar # BX4370 which uses non-binding latches and comes with safety cables.

Then for wiring you can use the same Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 along with 2 of the Fuse Bypass Switch # RM76512 for the fuses in locations 29 and 32 in your instrument panel fuse box. The Fuse Bypass Switch means that you just have to flip a switch to disconnect your fuses instead of having to physically remove your fuses each time you flat tow your Envision.

To complete your towing setup you also need a supplemental braking system. The Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 mentioned in the article you referenced is a great option as long as your motorhome has hydraulic brakes. If your motorhome has air brakes though you need the Air Force One # SM99243 instead which is essentially the air brake version of the DUO.

A lot of flat towing setups might require the use of a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level while towing a vehicle. I have linked a helpful article for you to reference to see if this applies to you. If it does then I have also linked our selection of adapters for you to filter through.
