How To Carry Kayaks On a Camper Shell
Updated 11/27/2019 | Published 11/26/2019 >
Question:
I have a trac rac ladder rack on my 1996 f250. older version before Thule to over. I purchased a Leer canopy and cannot install the trac rac with the canopy on. I still need to haul my kayaks on top and want to use the t bar since my Malone saddles and J hook attaches to that bar. I would like to install this set up on my leer canopy. Can you confirm that the canopy feet TH8527646001 would work on the canopy to anchor the t bar from the trac rack ladder rac. and the hardware and bolt kit is TA29203. These items should get me set up for hauling the kayaks? The feet are sold separate? I would need to order 4 correct? HOW are the feet anchored to the canopy on the inside? Are there bolts that show on the inside of the canopy that can snag on things or are they pretty streamline and non intrusive. Thanks

The best option I have for you to carry your kayaks on the camper shell is with the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack System part # Y02-480B which uses tracks so you can slide the crossbars back and forth at will. In regards to installation, you will have to drill into the camper and there will be visible components inside but there is no way around this when installing a roof rack on a camper shell. I have attached the installation instructions for you as well so you can see for yourself.
I spoke with Thule but they were not able to confirm compatibility with any of the older TracRac CapRac Ladder Rack parts unfortunately so I don't have an option for you to mix and match parts from your old ladder rack.
