Gap Between Frame and Hitch When Installing Draw-Tite Hitch On 2017 Jeep Patriot
Updated 11/18/2019 | Published 11/16/2019 >
Question:
Hi. I am installing a draw tite 75712 on a 2017 jeep patriot. There is a total gap of 5/8 inch between the widest part of the hitch and the inside width between the frame. Is it appropriate to use spacers. I have large diameter 1/8 inch thick washers. Would these be ok or is there somethimg else I should use?

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75712 is a confirmed fit for a 2017 Jeep Patriot. That said, there should be no washers or spacers needed to fill the gap between the frame and flange on the trailer hitch. If a gap is present, you may want to bend the flanges out on the trailer hitch. The other option as you mentioned is to just run the bolts down as that will then help line-up the flange to the frame rail but you will need to be careful about stressing the frame too much so bending as mentioned above is best. I have attached some other parts you might want to consider if towing a trailer as well.
